Fermilab Prairie Plant Survey
|Audience:||Informal Educators, Public, Families, Grades 5 - Adult|
|Description:||Join Fermilab as we return the prairie to the time before the pioneers. Learn scientific plant monitoring techniques while enjoying our beautiful prairie when you join this program. Open to the public, adult groups, families, scouts and more. Suggested age for this program is 14 and older. Groups with children younger than 14 and who will be entering 4th grade and above are welcome to join the July 21st program.
Participants will learn to identify prairie plants, map a prairie plot and track restoration progress just like the experts. Pariticpants use our Website to enter data they collect. Come once or come back two or three times a year and see how the prairie changes. You can monitor it for years to come if you like. Be ready to hike and explore parts of our site that are not normally open to the public. There is no charge for this program; we value your contribution to prairie science!
Look below at the different sessions. You can click Register Online to register as many people as you want to bring. Be sure to click the checkbox if you want to make multiple visits to the prairie to take data at different times.
You can also register by sending email to Sue Sheehan firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 630 840-5058.
Minimum of four people for a session to be held. You will be contacted four days in advance if the session is cancelled.
You will need sunscreen, walking shoes (not sandals), long pants, water and insect repellent for going out in the field. You will spend about two hours in the prairie.
