Educator Workshop: Summer Secondary Biology Institute

Description: The Summer Secondary Science Institutes are one- or two-week workshops on science content and classroom experiments and techniques for high school teachers. None is a prerequisite for any other.

The Summer Secondary Biology Institute is a one-week workshop designed to help high school biology teachers actively involve their students in biology concepts. Master teachers will present hands-on activities and proven classroom strategies with a study of major topics in biology. Participant needs will be addressed. Participants will receive, and add to, a Strategy/Curriculum Notebook. Participants will study how and when to use technology and engaged learning techniques to help students learn. Topics of discussion will also include questioning skills and the appropriate updating of traditional lab activities. There will be a follow-up session in January.

Fee: $400/person
Graduate credit: 3 semester hours can be arranged.
ISBE recertification: 6 CEUs
