Talk Title: QuarkNet: Physics Teachers and Physicists Working Together
 Presenter(s): Jordan, Tom - Fermilab, jordant@fnal.gov, Staff/PI
 Date: 8-5-2003
 Event: 127th AAPT
Talk Annotation: Outreach is a crucial component to modern scientific research. In QuarkNet, particle physicists invite physics teachers to join their research efforts. Teachers have contributed to 15 particle physics experiments. Their students have studied data, investigated cosmic rays, constructed macroscopic accelerators and detectors, and learned how particle physics is built upon the simple concepts learned in high school courses. We will describe the role of both physicists and teachers in this program that is entering its fifth year. We will also present a number of student activities and projects that are a result of this stimulating nexus of physicists, teachers and students.
