Who I am: I'm a bachelor graduate in Material Science and I'm attending a master degree in Padua (Italy) in Material Science. I love science in general and the field of materials chemistry and physics, in FermiLab I've found intelligent people and state of the art facilities that allowed me to increase my knowledge.
The purpose of this program is to produce a 2-5 micrometer thick layer of 𝜸/δ-NbN superconductor on crystalline bulk Niobium by mean of solid-gas reaction in furnace. This treatment would increase critical temperature of the surface from 9,25 K of Nb to 12-17 K of 𝜸/δ-NbN increasing consequently the quality factor of a Nb SRF superconductive cavity. The first treatments will be conducted on small Nb samples and the final purpose is to apply the technique to a 1.3 GHz SRF cavity. For the characterization of the treated samples I used SEM, EDS, AFM, MFM, SIMS and PPMS (ACMS and VMS).
