Educator Workshop: Summer Secondary Physics Institute - Engineering Applications

Description: The Summer Secondary Science Institutes are one- or two-week workshops on science content and classroom experiments and techniques for high school teachers. None is a prerequisite for any other.

This institute offers physics content and laboratory experiments with and emphasis on the Next Generation Science Standards Engineering components.

The workshop is a blend of discussion, hands-on, laboratory-based experiences, and "make and take" equipment for your own classroom. Teachers will develop and enhance their knowledge and understanding of engineering applications for high school physics content, explore and refine classroom pedagogy and laboratory techniques, and synthesize the knowledge and experiences described above in a way that will allow the student to use engineering applications effectively in their setting.

Instructors will lead discussions and explorations designed to address curriculum connections, potential misconceptions, safety issues, and other topics of participant interest. In addition, participants will have an opportunity to tour selected Fermilab sites and engage in discussions with Fermilab physicists and engineers.
